The Woodstock City Council has voted to award a residential solid waste collection and recycling contract to Georgia Waste Systems Inc., doing business as Waste Management – Woodstock Hauling.

Residents should experience minimal to no changes in services, as Waste Management is the current contract holder, according to staff. The proposed residential rate for the three-year term of the contract is $10.69 per month.

Waste Management was one of three companies to bid for the contract, which gives it the “sole and exclusive right” to provide waste collection and recycling services for and on behalf of the city. The company’s metro Atlanta facilities include a transfer station in Woodstock and a landfill in Ball Ground.

Its responsibilities will include making quarterly billings, giving complaints “prompt and courteous attention, ” supplying customers with garbage carts and recycling bins, and making curbside pickups once a week, according to the contract. The contract takes effect October 2017 and covers an estimated 8, 000 homes.
