Laser engraving and marking is a method of obtaining any image on the surface of a material when exposed to laser radiation. Compared with other currently known methods of applying an image to a surface from, laser processing of a material has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • durability, aesthetics, any complexity of the image;
  • obtaining images with very high resolution;
  • non-contact method of application – there is no wear or damage to the product;
  • almost complete absence of heating during the engraving process;
  • the ability to apply texts or drawings to objects of any configuration.

A focused beam with a high density of laser radiation carries out local heating of the material, which leads to the evaporation of the material or a change in its color at the place of marking or engraving. Thus, a certain relief appears on the surface of the material, the depth of which depends on the processing time and laser power.

In addition, laser marking allows you to change the color of the material, i.e. create the effect of obtaining a color image on a surface using tarnishing colors. The precise local distribution of laser energy and the high stability of the laser operation allow the creation of a color-coded effect on stainless steel and titanium.

Laser engraving is possible on almost any material – metal, leather, wood, plastic, cardboard, plexiglass, rubber, and other materials. The type of laser required for optimum marking quality depends directly on the material being processed. The main types of lasers are distinguished, depending on the task at hand: solid-state and fiber lasers, the wavelength of laser radiation of which is 1.06 microns, and a gas laser with a wavelength of 10.6 microns.
